Win two tickets to the Discovery Place Mixology event!

I love museums. I love food. I love drinks.

So I’m uber excited about the Mixology: Combine Science with Celebration event at Discovery Place on Thursday, May 10th, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. (There’s an after party at Rock Bottom until 11. Don’t tell anyone I told you.)

If you grew up going to Discovery Place like I did, going to a grown up party there featuring some of Charlotte’s top chefs, explosive entertainment and fancy cocktails pretty much sounds like the best day ever.

Even if you didn’t spend many a childhood field trip harassing sea urchins and starfish in the aquarium, shirt sleeves soaked even though you rolled them way up above your elbows, you will love this soiree. I’ve been promised ample liquid nitrogen and whipped cream play, chocolate covered bugs, slime and oobleck, and the opportunity to set fire to ice.

My plan is to hang out by the silent auction items, pushing up the bids on a trip to the Biltmore House & Winery, signed copies of Dear John and The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, and $1,000 in USAirways plane tickets until the very last minute. Then I’m going to goad some rich friends into making the final generous bid. I’m quite persuasive when I’m holding sea urchins.

Featured chefs include Heather McDonnell, winner of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars and owner of Cupcrazed; Charlotte Magazine‘s Restaurarteur of the Year, Chef Cassie Parsons of Harvest Moon Grille, and Chef David Quintana of Kobe’s Kreations, who cooks with liquid nitrogen.

Entries will be accepted until 11:59 pm EST on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. The winner will be announced the next day and will be chosen randomly.

    I did not have the privelage of growing up here but have had the wonderful opportunity to enjoy Discovery Place with my now 15 year old daughter over the years. Love it and Southern Sparks!! I have “liked” both, what a fabulous idea!! Thanks for the chance to enjoy it. :-)

    I’ve liked you forever, and just made it official with DP on Facebook. Feel like I should change my status. :) Seriously, my sweet hubby grew up here going to Discovery Place and I have enjoyed watching him relive his memories through our children. The remodel has been a fantastic addition to an already great museum. So, In my book, TPO and DP = 2 Charlotte treasures.
