Happy Sign Surprise

Frat Boy The Elder’s original due date was my birthday, which is next week.

When the ultrasound tech told me the due date when I was pregnant with him, I was all “NOOOOOOOO. That’s my birthday. Not. Sharing.” The tech mistakenly thought it would be sweet for us to share a birthday.

Um, nopey. My birthday is mine. MINE!

So when it came time to choose a date for the c-section, ¬†(Yes, I chose to have a c-section. And yes, I’d do it (and did do it) again. Wanna fight about it?) I chose the week before, so we would have a birthday buffer.

I wasn’t planning ahead. In the years between my childhood and his birth, I forgot about how important Halloween is to kids, and that we’d be planning birthday parties along with all of the Halloween festivities. I always feel a little bit bad for him that his birthday is eclipsed slightly by Halloween.

They were so cooperative while I was trying to get a Halloween photo of them together. It was like a dream.

So I like to try and make a big deal out of it for him. Who am I kidding? Regardless of when his birthday is, I’d be making a big deal out of it. It’s how I roll.

Birthdays are my favorite.

Barbie Cake, anyone?

When he got out of bed this morning, groggy from a Halloween hangover, he saw this:

Yellow dog not included.

All it took to turn my boy in to a superhero was emailing them a picture of him.

Happy Sign Surprise is a fantastic Charlotte area ¬†company that specializes in special occasion yard signs. I can’t say enough about how easy it was to work with Jaime and how much FBTE loves his birthday signs.

In the sidebar to the right of this post, you’ll see an ad for Happy Sign Surprise. For all reservations placed (but not necessarily delivered) in November, you’ll get 10% off with the promo code SPARK. I highly recommend this for any occasion-there are tons of options and it was so much fun to pick ours. They delivered it early in the morning, and they pick it up that evening. Now I can’t wait for the next birthday, and not just because of the cake.

Thanks, Megan. I’m not crafty like some people I know, but I can work a deal. :)

The due date for Ryan (the first born) was November 3rd. He decided to make an early appearance and was born on October 30th. Believe me when I tell you, this is the only time he has ever been early to anything! Sadly for him, most of his early birthdays were (you guessed it!) Halloween themed so I know how you and FBTE probably feel about a fun holiday eclipsing YOUR birthday! Would you believe my “baby” turned 27 the other day?

I guess it could be worse-I always feel bad for people born around Christmas. They really get the shaft.

And no, I can’t believe you have a 27-year-old baby. I wasn’t kidding when I said you come from adorable parents-you people don’t age!

I know FBTE was sooo excited! Who wouldn’t be?! I want a sign for my birthday too, but maybe not with my age. ;)

He was super excited-all of the kids on the street were. And who doesn’t want signs in the yard lauding the anniversary of your birth? ;)

My mom looks amazing. You wouldn’t believe how great her father looked who lived till he 87 when colon cancer took him. Nary a gray hair on his head. Amazing.
